Amotivation: A Key Predictor of College GPA, College Match, and First-Year Retention

Two studies examined the relationships between motivational orientation, college student success, and first-year retention. In Study 1, 523 students completed measures of orientation success. Results indicated that intrinsic extrinsic motivation were positively related to GPA, student-university match adjustment college. contrast, amotivation was negatively these dependent variables. 2 a mediational model in which most consistently amotivation, predicted lower GPA poorer match. These, turn decrease first-to-second-year retention among 385 students. These results suggest colleges may wish address as way enhance success
